“धन्य है वह मनुष्य, जो परीक्षा में स्थिर रहता है; क्योंकि वह खरा निकल कर जीवन का वह मुकुट पाएगा, जिस की प्रतिज्ञा प्रभु ने अपने प्रेम करने वालों को दी है।”
“Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.”
13 जब किसी की परीक्षा हो, तो वह यह न कहे, कि मेरी परीक्षा परमेश्वर की ओर से होती है; क्योंकि न तो बुरी बातों से परमेश्वर की परीक्षा हो सकती है, और न वह किसी की परीक्षा आप करता है।
14 परन्तु प्रत्येक व्यक्ति अपनी ही अभिलाषा में खिंच कर, और फंस कर परीक्षा में पड़ता है।
15 फिर अभिलाषा गर्भवती होकर पाप को जनती है और पाप जब बढ़ जाता है तो मृत्यु को उत्पन्न करता है।
16 हे मेरे प्रिय भाइयों, धोखा न खाओ।
17 क्योंकि हर एक अच्छा वरदान और हर एक उत्तम दान ऊपर ही से है, और ज्योतियों के पिता की ओर से मिलता है, जिस में न तो कोई परिवर्तन हो सकता है, ओर न अदल बदल के कारण उस पर छाया पड़ती है।
18 उस ने अपनी ही इच्छा से हमें सत्य के वचन के द्वारा उत्पन्न किया, ताकि हम उस की सृष्टि की हुई वस्तुओं में से एक प्रकार के प्रथम फल हों॥
21 इसलिये सारी मलिनता और बैर भाव की बढ़ती को दूर करके, उस वचन को नम्रता से ग्रहण कर लो, जो हृदय में बोया गया और जो तुम्हारे प्राणों का उद्धार कर सकता है।
25 पर जो व्यक्ति स्वतंत्रता की सिद्ध व्यवस्था पर ध्यान करता रहता है, वह अपने काम में इसलिये आशीष पाएगा कि सुनकर नहीं, पर वैसा ही काम करता है।
13. Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:
14. But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.
15. Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.
16. Do not err, my beloved brethren.
17. Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.
18. Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.
21. Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.
25. But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.
पाठ उपदेश
1 आदि में परमेश्वर ने आकाश और पृथ्वी की सृष्टि की।
26 फिर परमेश्वर ने कहा, हम मनुष्य को अपने स्वरूप के अनुसार अपनी समानता में बनाएं; और वे समुद्र की मछलियों, और आकाश के पक्षियों, और घरेलू पशुओं, और सारी पृथ्वी पर, और सब रेंगने वाले जन्तुओं पर जो पृथ्वी पर रेंगते हैं, अधिकार रखें।
27 तब परमेश्वर ने मनुष्य को अपने स्वरूप के अनुसार उत्पन्न किया, अपने ही स्वरूप के अनुसार परमेश्वर ने उसको उत्पन्न किया, नर और नारी करके उसने मनुष्यों की सृष्टि की।
28 और परमेश्वर ने उन को आशीष दी।

1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
28 And God blessed them,
31 And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good.
1 योंआकाश और पृथ्वी और उनकी सारी सेना का बनाना समाप्त हो गया।

15 तब यहोवा परमेश्वर ने आदम को ले कर अदन की वाटिका में रख दिया, कि वह उस में काम करे और उसकी रक्षा करे,
16 तब यहोवा परमेश्वर ने आदम को यह आज्ञा दी, कि तू वाटिका के सब वृक्षों का फल बिना खटके खा सकता है:
17 पर भले या बुरे के ज्ञान का जो वृक्ष है, उसका फल तू कभी न खाना: क्योंकि जिस दिन तू उसका फल खाए उसी दिन अवश्य मर जाएगा॥
1 Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.
6 But there went up a mist from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground.
7 And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.
15 And the Lord God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.
16 And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:
17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.
1 यहोवा परमेश्वर ने जितने बनैले पशु बनाए थे, उन सब में सर्प धूर्त था, और उसने स्त्री से कहा, क्या सच है, कि परमेश्वर ने कहा, कि तुम इस बाटिका के किसी वृक्ष का फल न खाना?
4 तब सर्प ने स्त्री से कहा, तुम निश्चय न मरोगे,
5 वरन परमेश्वर आप जानता है, कि जिस दिन तुम उसका फल खाओगे उसी दिन तुम्हारी आंखें खुल जाएंगी, और तुम भले बुरे का ज्ञान पाकर परमेश्वर के तुल्य हो जाओगे।
6 सो जब स्त्री ने देखा कि उस वृक्ष का फल खाने में अच्छा, और देखने में मनभाऊ, और बुद्धि देने के लिये चाहने योग्य भी है, तब उसने उस में से तोड़कर खाया; और अपने पति को भी दिया, और उसने भी खाया।
9 तब यहोवा परमेश्वर ने पुकार कर आदम से पूछा, तू कहां है?
10 उसने कहा, मैं तेरा शब्द बारी में सुन कर डर गया क्योंकि मैं नंगा था; इसलिये छिप गया।
11 उसने कहा, किस ने तुझे चिताया कि तू नंगा है? जिस वृक्ष का फल खाने को मैं ने तुझे बर्जा था, क्या तू ने उसका फल खाया है?
12 आदम ने कहा जिस स्त्री को तू ने मेरे संग रहने को दिया है उसी ने उस वृक्ष का फल मुझे दिया, और मैं ने खाया।
13 तब यहोवा परमेश्वर ने स्त्री से कहा, तू ने यह क्या किया है? स्त्री ने कहा, सर्प ने मुझे बहका दिया तब मैं ने खाया।
23 तब यहोवा परमेश्वर ने उसको अदन की बाटिका में से निकाल दिया कि वह उस भूमि पर खेती करे जिस में से वह बनाया गया था।
1 Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?
4 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:
5 For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.
6 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.
9 And the Lord God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou?
10 And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself.
11 And he said, Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat?
12 And the man said, The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat.
13 And the Lord God said unto the woman, What is this that thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat.
23 Therefore the Lord God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken.

14 फिर यीशु आत्मा की सामर्थ से भरा हुआ गलील को लौटा।
15 और वह उन की आराधनालयों में उपदेश करता रहा, और सब उस की बड़ाई करते थे॥
1 And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness,
2 Being forty days tempted of the devil. And in those days he did eat nothing: and when they were ended, he afterward hungered.
3 And the devil said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, command this stone that it be made bread.
4 And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.
5 And the devil, taking him up into an high mountain, shewed unto him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time.
6 And the devil said unto him, All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for that is delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it.
7 If thou therefore wilt worship me, all shall be thine.
8 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.
9 And he brought him to Jerusalem, and set him on a pinnacle of the temple, and said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down from hence:
10 For it is written, He shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee:
11 And in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.
12 And Jesus answering said unto him, It is said, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.
13 And when the devil had ended all the temptation, he departed from him for a season.
14 And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee: and there went out a fame of him through all the region round about.
15 And he taught in their synagogues, being glorified of all.

10 तेरा राज्य आए; तेरी इच्छा जैसी स्वर्ग में पूरी होती है, वैसे पृथ्वी पर भी हो।
11 हमारी दिन भर की रोटी आज हमें दे।
12 और जिस प्रकार हम ने अपने अपराधियों को क्षमा किया है, वैसे ही तू भी हमारे अपराधों को क्षमा कर।
13 और हमें परीक्षा में न ला, परन्तु बुराई से बचा; क्योंकि राज्य और पराक्रम और महिमा सदा तेरे ही हैं। आमीन।
9 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
10 Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
11 Give us this day our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
13 तुम किसी ऐसी परीक्षा में नहीं पड़े, जो मनुष्य के सहने से बाहर है: और परमेश्वर सच्चा है: वह तुम्हें सामर्थ से बाहर परीक्षा में न पड़ने देगा, वरन परीक्षा के साथ निकास भी करेगा; कि तुम सह सको॥
13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

3 For if a man think himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceiveth himself.

9 The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations,

Man is the family name for all ideas, — the sons and daughters of God. All that God imparts moves in accord with Him, reflecting goodness and power.

The substance, Life, intelligence, Truth, and Love, which constitute Deity, are reflected by His creation; and when we subordinate the false testimony of the corporeal senses to the facts of Science, we shall see this true likeness and reflection everywhere.
God fashions all things, after His own likeness. Life is reflected in existence, Truth in truthfulness, God in goodness, which impart their own peace and permanence.
Man and woman as coexistent and eternal with God forever reflect, in glorified quality, the infinite Father-Mother God.

Genesis ii. 6. But there went up a mist from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground.
The second chapter of Genesis contains a statement of this material view of God and the universe, a statement which is the exact opposite of scientific truth as before recorded. The history of error or matter, if veritable, would set aside the omnipotence of Spirit; but it is the false history in contradistinction to the true.
The Science of the first record proves the falsity of the second. If one is true, the other is false, for they are antagonistic. The first record assigns all might and government to God, and endows man out of God's perfection and power. The second record chronicles man as mutable and mortal, — as having broken away from Deity and as revolving in an orbit of his own. Existence, separate from divinity, Science explains as impossible.

God's glowing denunciations of man when not found in His image, the likeness of Spirit, convince reason and coincide with revelation in declaring this material creation false.

Although presenting the exact opposite of Truth, the lie claims to be truth. The creations of matter arise from a mist or false claim, or from mystification, and not from the firmament, or understanding, which God erects between the true and false. In error everything comes from beneath, not from above.

Being in sympathy with matter, the worldly man is at the beck and call of error, and will be attracted thitherward. He is like a traveller going westward for a pleasure-trip. The company is alluring and the pleasures exciting. After following the sun for six days, he turns east on the seventh, satisfied if he can only imagine himself drifting in the right direction. By-and-by, ashamed of his zigzag course, he would borrow the passport of some wiser pilgrim, thinking with the aid of this to find and follow the right road.

"Work out your own salvation," is the demand of Life and Love, for to this end God worketh with you. "Occupy till I come!" Wait for your reward, and "be not weary in well doing." If your endeavors are beset by fearful odds, and you receive no present reward, go not back to error, nor become a sluggard in the race.
When the smoke of battle clears away, you will discern the good you have done, and receive according to your deserving. Love is not hasty to deliver us from temptation, for Love means that we shall be tried and purified.
Final deliverance from error, whereby we rejoice in immortality, boundless freedom, and sinless sense, is not reached through paths of flowers nor by pinning one's faith without works to another's vicarious effort.

Sorrow for wrong-doing is but one step towards reform and the very easiest step. The next and great step required by wisdom is the test of our sincerity, — namely, reformation. To this end we are placed under the stress of circumstances. Temptation bids us repeat the offence, and woe comes in return for what is done. So it will ever be, till we learn that there is no discount in the law of justice and that we must pay "the uttermost farthing." The measure ye mete "shall be measured to you again," and it will be full "and running over."

All human knowledge and material sense must be gained from the five corporeal senses. Is this knowledge safe, when eating its first fruits brought death? "In the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die," was the prediction in the story under consideration. Adam and his progeny were cursed, not blessed; and this indicates that the divine Spirit, or Father, condemns material man and remands him to dust.

The apostle says: "For if a man think himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceiveth himself." This thought of human, material nothingness, which Science inculcates, enrages the carnal mind and is the main cause of the carnal mind's antagonism.
It is not the purpose of Christian Science to "educate the idea of God, or treat it for disease," as is alleged by one critic. I regret that such criticism confounds man with Adam. When man is spoken of as made in God's image, it is not sinful and sickly mortal man who is referred to, but the ideal man, reflecting God's likeness.

When speaking of God's children, not the children of men, Jesus said, "The kingdom of God is within you;" that is, Truth and Love reign in the real man, showing that man in God's image is unfallen and eternal. Jesus beheld in Science the perfect man, who appeared to him where sinning mortal man appears to mortals. In this perfect man the Saviour saw God's own likeness, and this correct view of man healed the sick. Thus Jesus taught that the kingdom of God is intact, universal, and that man is pure and holy.
